Choosing the right type of attic ladder takes a little more thought than simply picking out the first one that you come across. And because there are several different styles, you will want to take the time to compare them and pick out the style that best suits the needs of your home. The first thing to consider is whether you want a fixed ladder or one in which you pull the stairs down.

The amount of room space you have below the attic is what generally determines which type to go with, or which type you will be forced to use in some cases. The fixed ladder is similar to your stairs that would go down to the basement. You would have the stairs and also a railing.

A folding attic ladder is more commonly used between the two types and will either pull down with a small rope, or slide down into place. Which style you choose is pretty much your own personal preference.
